Donald Meklin, the founder of Donald Meklin & Sons, started his business in the 1950s. He was raising chickens and needed a 400ft 4ft deep trench dug out for brooder chickens. After completing the trench by hand, Donald realized that he needed a more efficient way to tackle similar projects in the future. He then purchased his first backhoe and began to offer excavating services to his neighbors and friends.

Initially, Donald worked alone, taking on small excavation jobs in the local area. However, as his reputation grew, he started to get more work than he could handle by himself. Donald then hired local help to assist him in completing projects on time. As the demand for his services continued to grow, Donald invested in additional equipment, including an 8 yard dump truck and farm tractor with a backhoe.

With his company expanding, Donald’s eldest sons joined the business and helped him manage the growing demand for excavating services. As the years went by, the company continued to expand, and Donald’s sons took over the business, carrying on the family legacy.

Today, Donald Meklin & Sons is a third-generation family business run by Bruce and Eric Meklin, Donald’s sons. The company is located in Cushing, Maine, and has a reputation for providing high-quality excavation services to residential and commercial clients in the local area.
